Angus Smith was the oldest traditional canoe builder in Cowichan, and in the summer of 2005 he was contracted by the Cowichan Tribes to carve a traditional Salish canoe to be used for tribal journeys.

"I was very honored to be hired directly by Angus to participate in the construction of this magnificent canoe. I spent over a month participating on this beautiful project, and the teachings, knowledge, and skills on traditional canoe building that Angus shared with us, I will be forever grateful." Joe Jack.
