Cowichan War Canoe Races 1912

This is a very old and exciting water sport that is culturally dedicated to Coast Salish traditional competition.

This first class traditional Coast Salish competition involves three full days of viewing entertainment of world-class Aboriginal Canadian athletes, on open waters, and in all types of weather conditions. This is a family oriented event that is drug and alcohol free, and the start time is approximately 12:00 noon.

Barbecued Salmon
These traditional events will include the single canoe paddle races, double canoe paddle races, six man/woman canoe, mixed, eleven man/women's canoe races, and the ever-popular “Buckskin Races” (youth ages ten-sixteen).

A full concession is operated on site which features traditional barbecued salmon, fried bread, island style burgers, hotdogs, French fries, bottled drinks, juices, coffee, and tea.

Cowichan Tribes and the Water sports Committee cordially invite and welcome all visitors and the general public to come and witness these exciting traditional War Canoe Races.
